Petroleum Development Oman (PDO), Oman is the leading exploration and production company in the Sultanate of Oman, contributing to about 70% of the nation’s crude oil production and nearly all of its natural gas supply. PDO is widely recognized for its adoption of enhanced oil recovery technologies, sustainable energy initiatives, and focus on national workforce development. At Petroleum Development Oman (PDO), the existing automation system was running on Wonderware Intouch SCADA integrated with GE PLCs for critical skid automation. We successfully upgraded Wonderware Intouch SCADA from v2012 to AVEVA Intouch v2023 for two servers, while keeping the GE PLCs intact and the plant fully operational, ensuring no production downtime. The project also included the supply and integration of Kepware communication driver v6.16, along with the design, installation, and commissioning of the AVEVA Intouch SCADA and Kepware driver. The SCADA system was fully integrated with the existing GE PLCs, maintaining seamless communication and enhanced operational control throughout the upgrade.
